586 Sports Develop S1600 Swift

After a successful debut season with the Suzuki Swift S1600, 586 Sports have been busy with the development prior to what will be a very important 2012 season in the British Rally Championship.

586 have got the expertise of David Potter, an experience engineer who is highly involved with all forms of motorsport. David has transformed various cars over the years, including the VW Golf ran by SBG/586 Sports in the 1990’s, to great success.

Over the winter months, 586 hope to develop the S1600 Swift on tests in the lead up to the season.

586 Sports British Rally Championship 2011 Review

586 Sports had another successfully rallying year, off the back of winning the 2010 BRC Challenge title and their driver Callum Black also taking home the ‘Star of the Future award’.

Progressing into the British Rally Championship, an international rally series, they started brightly with a podium on drivers Callum Black International debut.

Following on from the Sunseeker rally, round two went to the welsh forests for the bulldog rally where Callum faced more competition from stronger cars. Nevertheless, Callum came in at 4th, just off the podium.

Still on the loose gravel surface before going onto asphalt, Callum tackled the Pirelli rally where he retired with an engine problem out of the teams control.

Onto tarmac for the Jim Clark rally, Callum was eager to test his skills and despite only having limited time on tarmac, he put in an impressive performance, taking his first fastest stage time and lead the rally. Despite struggling with generating heat into his tyres he managed to bring the car home and brought some more points to the table.

Remaining on tarmac and travelling over the sea, the 586 team headed to the Ulster Rally in Ireland. Callum, despite never contending on the event, worked his way up to 5th OVERALL! And 3rd in the F2 category after the first day. However, on the first stage on the second day, drama struck as Callum and co-driver Paul Wakely found themselves stuck in a ditch after sliding off the road.

The 586 Sports team managed to repair the S1600 Swift for what was the last round of the BRC, the Trackrod rally, where Callum once again managed to get the car on the podium, getting him 5th overall in the championship.

2012 promises to be an interesting season for the team and driver Callum Black. See the promotional video below, showing some in car & out of car footage of Callum.
