Last Saturday saw 19 year-old Callum Black take his first ever title in only his second season of rallying.

The Northampton Engineering student went into the final round leading the championship, but still had to win the rally to guarentee the British Rally Challenge Championship title.

In his new Suzuki Swift S1600, Callum got out the blocks quick and won the first stage by a staggering 20 seconds to his closest rival and a further 15 seconds to his main threat, local driver Chris Peart in his Corsa S1600.

Callum knew he was in the driving seat and continued to push on and again won the 2nd stage. This time by a margin of 40 seconds. With one small 5 mile stage left before service, Callum focused on getting the car back to service, but still took the fastest stage time by 11 seconds.

Back at service, along with the news that main rival Chris Peart had retired and sitting on a 1min 34 second lead Callum was eager for the finish of the rally, but still had 2 vital stages to complete.

Callum continued to dominate and won the next stage by 33 seconds and made it a full house when he won the very last stage.

Callum commented:

“I am absolutely delighted to win the championship and to win it the way we have, well, I couldn’t really ask for much more. The rally has been perfect right from all the preperation and shakedown all the way to the finish podium. The car didn’t miss a beat, the whole team has done a fantastic job of building such a brilliant car, I really couldn’t ask for much more! To win a title in only my second season is a dream, I just want to take that momentum into next year, and put some decent performances in on the BRC rounds next year. I want to say a huge thank you to all my sponsors, without them it wouldn’t be possible. Hankook Tyres have been brilliant, the tyres were the complete package, they were so strong and performaned brilliant on a range of condition throughout the year. Millers Oils who selected me as a ‘Rising Star’ at the start of the season, who provide brilliant oils and put on a fantastic scheme to promote young talent. Trade Away who have supported us with entry’s this year, thank you. The list goes on, but each individual who has helped in their own little way has made it possible. My family have been great and a special thanks has to go to my Mum and Dad who have had faith in me and given me so muh support in all aspects. I really can’t wait for the 2011 season, I’m extremely optimistic it could be a brilliant year for me!”

Callum has finished the season:

1st in BRC Challenge
1st in BRC Challenge Junior
